Alison and Andy at Irvine Regional Park

I'm glad we were able to catch Alison and Andy for an engagement session since they were down here for only a couple of days. We'll be covering their wedding in Santa Barbara in August and it should be a fun one.

For this shoot, we traversed across Irvine Regional Park and found some cool spots. When I say cool, I mean it was like 100 degrees and I really wanted to find shade for them. Despite the weather, we still had fun and they even went out with a paddle boat to take in the scenery. I really enjoy getting to know the couples through the engagement shoots because when the big day comes, they are so comfortable in front of my camera.

Here's a sneak preview and see you guys in Santa Barbara!

Frederique's Family Portraits

You know you must be a loved teacher if your class gets together and buys you a portrait session. Frederique and her family is moving back to France after being here three years, and the class that she teaches thanked her with a family portrait session with us. They were so much fun to work with, especially the little ones. I hope that one day these photos will bring back fond memories of their time here in Orange County.

Kami and Nathan in Laguna Beach

When I first met Kami at the consultation I could already tell that she and her fiance would be really fun to shoot. She was pleasant and just had a really easy-going personality. My favorite part was that she mentioned she wanted to get in the water at the beach. I haven't had one of those in a while and the weather is perfect in June to do that.

We started at Bluebird Park and then headed over to Bluebird Beach in Laguna Beach.

They were more comfortable playing than posing, so the slides and swings were perfect for these two.

We can always find ways to adjust to the height disparity.

They have great chemistry with each other. Kami and Nathan laughed and smiled for pretty much the entire shoot, which is great on camera.

The sun starts to set.

Nathan spun Kami faster than I've ever seen anyone spun!

I love running-in-the-water shots.

Getting hit by the water with regular clothes on takes a little getting used to.

Steffanie and Ruben at Calafia Park

San Clemente, California

After having such a great time doing their engagement session, we couldn't wait to shoot their wedding at Calafia Park. Steffanie and Ruben are easy-going people so we knew it would a fun one. Although the rehearsal was rained out the day before, the skies cleared up and the sun came out for their wedding. It seems to always work out somehow.

Steffanie and her dad had a surprise dance for everyone so be sure to scroll down to the bottom to see it.

Steffanie's "Ruby" had given her the necklace as a present.

Calafia Park has an amazing backdrop with an ocean view.

I love to focus on the bride and groom's faces as they see each other for the first time.

The ring-bearer and flower girl were so adorable!

They are too cute around each other.

The reception site at the golf course.

This was the surprise father and bride dance. They started off dancing normally and then busted out a choreographed hip hop routine. I've seen the bride and groom do this, but this is a first for the bride and father! The dad pulled it off well I might add.

Another great idea was the colored hats that was passed out.

These women were going to slug it out for the bouquet.

The girls caught it at the same time but eventually one let go and gave it to the other.

Maria's Maternity Portraits in Laguna Beach

Being the photographer's assistant, I usually just show up and help out wherever I can and get some shots of my own in. When Maria asked us to shoot her maternity photos, I asked Jimmy if I could do this one. See, I work with Maria and she's also a good friend. Her son, Joseph, is completely in love with me (sorry, Jimmy), so I really wanted to shoot this one for her. Of course, Jimmy couldn't just stand there and be my assistant for a day. The last couple of shots were taken by him.

Maria is the most gorgeous pregnant woman I've ever met and her son is just so flipping cute! We had told Joseph to talk to the baby, so that's what he was doing in the picture on the right.

For someone who's 8 months pregnant, that belly looks mighty small!

Like any little boy, Joseph couldn't resist playing in the water. This was his attempt in outrunning the water as it came up the shore. Mission failed.

Thanks, Maria and Joseph, for letting me take these shots. I had tons of fun and can't wait till baby Isabel comes.

Love,
Sen

Kim's Maternity Portraits

Taking a one week hiatus from weddings, I was able to squeeze in two maternity shoots just in time for Mother's Day.

Kim is expecting any minute now so this was our last chance to get a shoot in before the baby comes. Schoolteacher and wife of my friend David, Kim comes off adorably in pictures. I can't wait to get the text with the good news!

No, the baby's name is not going to be Ted. She's actually going to be a girl, but since David starting calling the baby Ted for no reason, it just kind of stuck.

Laguna Beach Wedding: Kathy and Steve

It's always flattering when people who work in the creative industry hire me as their photographer. Steve is a senior art director for a prominent website (hint: initials are A I) and I'm so glad that he and Kathy invited me to capture their beautiful wedding in Laguna Beach. We had so much fun during their engagement session that we were totally looking forward to this. Their family and friends were all so warm and friendly and just a joy to photograph. There are just too many great moments to post them all here, so these are just a few preview shots that I picked out.

The bride's brother getting ready.

The wedding party on both sides were so great to work with. This is a total guy shot and it was mostly unposed as they were walking down the hill.

We photographed Kathy and the girls in a home high up in the hills of Laguna Beach with an amazing view.

The wind was blowing a little so Kathy decided to have a little fun with it. This is just how silly and fun she is. I should mention here that Kathy skydives, a lot, and this is what she would probably look like if she were to have a wedding while skydiving.

While shooting the guys and girls at separate locations, the dogs in the neighborhood wanted to say hi. The adorable one below brought a tennis ball up to me to play fetch while I was shooting.

The cute flower girl smiled like this all the way down the aisle.

The interior of St. Mary's Episcopal Church is amazing with gorgeous hardwood and just as important, good air-conditioning.

Not pictured: The hundreds of people watching them being photographed, honking in their cars and congratulating them.

After a wedding, a bride just wants to relax and receive a foot massage.

During their engagement session, I told them to run on the beach and being the athletic types, they ran by so fast I could barely catch up. I learned my lesson so this time, I told them to jog by slowly.

One of my favorites of the day, Kathy and her beautiful expressions.

This cake topper has been passed down a couple of generations.

The lighting was perfect for their first dance.

The speech from Steve was emotional. It was quite endearing when he delivered his speech, and I'm so glad I was able to grab the gorgeous blue glow from the sky as it was disappearing.

Grace and Angel at Rancho Capistrano

San Juan Capistrano, California.

Grace and Angel were married at Rancho Capistrano in Orange County. The venue is set outdoors with beautiful greenery and a mountain backdrop ideal for photos. I wasn't surprised by this since I could tell that photography was important to Grace and Angel when I first met them. The wedding party was a fun group of people, the live band was fantastic, and the day was great. Here's a preview of the photos...

We were walking up this hill and it was difficult for Grace in her heels. I thought it was cute how Angel was helping her by holding the dress up this way.

My favorite shot of the evening, on the red bridge above the pond.

The plaza where the reception was held was adorned with red flowers and served as a gorgeous backdrop.

Annalisa and Will at Dove Canyon Courtyard

Trabuco Canyon, California.

You have to enjoy shooting a wedding when the father of the bride inducts you into the family. That's precisely what Rick did while we shot Annalisa and William's wedding at the Dove Canyon Courtyard in Trabuco Canyon, next to the Coto De Caza Country Club.

I started off at Annalisa's parent's house and became acquainted with her family immediately. Her father, Rick, was comedy relief the entire time (sorry Annalisa, I know you told me not to encourage him, but he is funny). What I found out though, through a fun car ride with the family to the wedding, was that they had an open and genuine love for each other. It made for a lot of funny and touching moments througout the day, and to able to capture that is why I love doing what I do.

If you know me, you'll know that I always gravitate towards dogs. It was feeling left out of the festivities.

Waiting in the room.

Mom gets dad ready for the big moment.

Rick protected this door like a secret service agent, checking all visitors upon entrance. Most of the time, he was making the whole room laugh by providing funny commentary on the guests walking by outside the room. Here, he is quiet as he gazes at his daughter the bride.

My favorite shot, unposed.

"The perfect pear."

Christine and Roy at Hilton Waterfront

Huntington Beach, California

I had an amazing time documenting Christine and Roy's wedding that started at her parents' house in Aliso Viejo and ended at the Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort in Huntington Beach. We shot their engagement session a long time ago so it was great to finally see them again. My favorite part of the day was the private moments between Christine and her father. This is usually something that only the photographer sees, that moment before daddy gives his little girl away. I don't listen to the words that they say, but I follow the eyes as they look at each other and then away to keep from crying too much. I've seen this moment time and time again and it's always special.

My favorite shot, part one.

My other favorite shot.

Jackie and Roy's Wedding in Laguna Beach

Laguna Beach, California

The day started out with a few sprinkles and fortunately it went away by the time we began shooting, since it was an outdoor wedding at Occasions in Laguna Beach. That paved the way for dramatic looking skies that serve as a great backdrop. Jackie and Roy were so great to work with, as were their parents and wedding party. Everyone was so pleasant that it was just a joy to capture the event. Here are just a few of the many shots from the wedding:

Introducing the groom, Roy.

And his groomsmen.

Having a little fun, snapping fingers.

The girls walking down a busy Pacific Coast Highway in Laguna Beach.

I love the dark blue dresses the bridesmaids wore, so we wanted to shoot it against this artistic blue wall.

While shooting this one, I could hear the bridesmaids behind me saying that they loved this shot.

The girls were such a great group to work with.

Details of the wedding dress.

The entire wedding party.

I loved the colors of the cake.

The bride and her father had a classic dance while the groom and his mother performed an entertaining number that cracked everyone up.

Yummy Chillz Yogurt

We went to visit our friends Jaime and Ace again at Chillz frozen yogurt in Rancho Santa Margarita to get a few more shots of their delicious yogurt. I love going there just to chit-chat with them, but getting to eat the sample fro-yo's is a nice bonus.

Here is the location:
31431 Santa Margarita Pkwy
Rancho Santa Margarita, CA 92688

Strawberry, with gummies and sprinkles.

Mango circled with raspberry and blackberry.

And the best part of this gig? Free yogurt!

Jaime hand-made us a super cute Christmas ornament. Check out the guy on the right, he has a camera hanging on his heck... that's me!

Glissel and Fernando in Santa Ana

Every couple that I photograph has a special chemistry between them, and it's always fun to try to capture it on camera. Spending the day with them, I found out that Fernando is a total gentleman with Glissel, and she is such a sweetheart to him. Glissel may seem quiet and shy, but you can see her open up with big smiles when she is with him. Before the ceremony, I got to spend a good amount of time with them for portraits. It was great to see how they compliment each other so well. I picked out just a few of my favorites from their wedding day.

You can tell how much he adores her just by the way he looks at her.

It's hard to tell here, but it was really windy and a challenge just to keep the veil from flying all over the place. The grass here is not photoshopped, it was really that green!

This is my favorite shot of the day. The rain was on and off the whole day, but it somehow always manages to stop just for my shoots.

The Santa Ana Train Depot was relatively empty so we sneaked in a few shots before the rain started again.

I love train tracks shots. Here, I love the dark yellow color and how she's holding up her dress.

The ring exchange. They were pretty nervous before the wedding, so I know that they released a lot of that energy at this moment.

Glissel's brother performed the song "You and Me" at this moment, so she became a little emotional and shed a few happy tears.

The guests blew bubbles as the bride and groom come out of the chapel.

At the reception site, we found this wall decor to place the rings on.

Steffanie and Ruben in Huntington Beach

We met Steffanie and Ruben over at Huntington Beach near the Hyatt Regency. I've been wanting to get some shots of a couple riding bikes, and as it turns out, they do that quite often there.

Ruben claims to be uncomfortable in front of the camera, but as you tell from these preview photos, he is very photogenic just like his gorgeous fiancee. He helped by making Steffanie laugh a lot, and you could tell they were having fun with the shoot. We really had a good time with them and we can't wait for their wedding in May.

At the popular tower in Huntington Beach. The blue sky serves as the perfect backdrop for the white tower.

We found this shaded area for them to get a little intimate.

They look so good together.

Love the smiles here.

The Hyatt Regency is such a pretty place for photos. These flowers are so cute and colorful.

We loved this wall as soon as we spotted it. Steffanie grew up just a couple of blocks away and said, "I never realized there were so many nice places for photos here!"

You can see their bikes in the background.

Even though they each had a bike, we thought it'd be cuter to have him give her a ride.

The sun was starting to set. You can see how soft the light was.

Another nice wall to shoot against.

Steffanie saw these boards and wanted to get a shot of themselves in front of their respective national flags. Sometimes, our clients come up with the great ideas!

Steffanie has the most gorgeous green eyes. Her shirt and the green grass complements them well.

Hard to beat the sunset on the Pacific coast.

Under the famous Huntington Beach pier.

I love how the photos turned out. Thanks for working through the freezing cold weather!

Dusky and Bobby at 7 Degrees Laguna Beach

Let me start off by saying that 7 Degrees in Laguna Beach is an awesome venue with its modern architecture, trendy ambiance, and great mood lighting. I'm so glad Dusky and Bobby picked this place for their wedding reception because it's a photogenic location and I think it was fitting of their style.

The night was pretty much a huge party with family and friends and it was a blast covering it. Dusky and Bobby are such a funny couple, I found myself laughing along with them all night.

The location, 7 Degrees.

Champagne awaited guests as they arrived in the front gallery.

Between the front gallery and the terrace where guests enjoyed cocktails, this is the ambient lighting that decorated the walls. Dusky is looking out the window as she gets ready.

Two gorgeous dresses hang as Dusky prepares.

Last minute touches to the hair.

Dusky is almost ready for their grand entrance. She poses for family.

Dusky thanks the make-up artist.

Dusky in her first dress.

Bobby, before noticing the camera and making sexy faces to it.

They are such a cute couple, always making each other laugh.

The first dance. Notice the awesome lighting. The colors change throughout the dance, which could be a nightmare for photos. But if caught right, the photo could be amazing.

Yet another color for the room.

This was the moment of the night for me, when he put on this cap to let everyone know who he was: Dusky's Dad.

You can see how much fun they were having.

Dusky danced a lot, often entertaining a crowd around her.

Bobby gets a mouthful as he reaches for the garter.

At the end of the night, guests held sparklers as Dusky and Bobby walks through. It was an exciting finish to an amazing reception.

Alicia's Headshots

Alicia is an aspiring actress and she wanted to get a few headshots done. I've never had a shoot where every shot was good. There were literally no outtakes. That's one way of telling whether a person is good in front of the camera.

Oh, did I mention that she is gorgeous?

These aren't part of her headshots, but I wanted to just get a few of her in a casual state.

Annalisa and Will in Yorba Linda

Luckily for us, the rain stopped just in time for our shoot with Annalisa and Will. I love the overcast look after it rains, so I'm glad they were ready to go with or without the rain. We started off at the Nixon Library, had the majority of our shoot at Tri-City park, and then ended at the Bradford House.

In front of the fountain at the Richard Nixon Library.

When I saw this tree and bench, I knew that this was gonna be a cool shot to put up on the wall.

A little aside... we saw this duck beating up on another duck while their friends watched. It was quite violent, but he stopped after a while and they just went about their business, so I guess all is good in the animal kingdom again.

I love when the sun provides lighting on the hair. The glow is beautiful.

On the bridge.

Will chasing Annalisa across the bridge.

A sweet moment at the Bradford House.

What a totally adorable couple! I can't wait for the wedding come March.

Michelle and Tom's Wedding in Laguna Beach

Michelle and Tom, whose engagement shoot I shot just a little while ago here, rented out a cute house in Laguna Beach called Pacific Edge for their wedding reception. It's a great idea for a smaller sized party not only because it's an adorable location, but also because it's situated practically on the beach giving you a view of the ocean from almost anywhere in the house.

There were again way too many photos to pick from, so here's what I've cut it down to:

Michelle comes into view for the first time as her maid of honor adjusts her train.

Michelle and father await the walk down the aisle.

The center of attention.

Michelle looks over with a smile during the ceremony.

They had a bagpipe performer lead them in the recessional. He was a big hit.

The adorable children in the wedding party.

We made our way out of the church and onto the beach. The flower girl wasn't having any of this "portrait" business, but she's still cute anyway.

The guys.

It was a bit sunny at this time of day, but look at the blue skies and water!

The beautiful bride with sunlight on her back. Those toned arms aren't by accident either, she works them out!

This reminds me of a bride and groom cake-topper.

This is a totally cute wedding cake.

This photo booth by Red Cheese was very popular at the reception. It's a great idea and keeps the guests busy. The prints come out really fast, too.

The coordinator made sure we got into the booth too, so this was us goofing off.

Close-up shot of the rings on the bouquet.

Michelle freshening up.

My favorite shot of the night. The bride looking out the balcony.

Tom and Michelle share a private moment before the grand entrance.

There are two elements that make for an awesome speech. The first is to make everyone laugh by reliving hilarious moments of the past, and the second is to bawl with the bride.

Michelle shares a giggle with a guest.

Here's our adorable flower girl again, this time playing to the camera.

Michelle had decorated these wine glasses with the first initials of each of the guys.

I'll end with this shot of Michelle, after changing out of her wedding dress, dancing to the great selection of music.

This was a great wedding to kick off my 2008 weddings. Michelle and Tom was an awesome couple to work with. The coordinator Lorraine is such a sweetheart, making sure we were taken care of. It was a blast.

Brian's Family in Downtown Fullerton

You know a shoot will be fun when it's raining and the family still wants to go for it. I'm so glad we did because it was a blast following them around Downtown Fullerton. The boys were so full of energy and luckily for me, their mom just let the boys be boys and reminded herself to just let go for this session.

While waiting for dad, the boys partook in some rain tasting.

I found out real quick that the best shots of Ezra were candids.

This was supposed to be a "band" shot, but this outtake looks more fun.

A few adorable family shots.

Ezra and Noah made sure to stomp on every puddle. The expressions are too funny!

There are so many places to go in Downtown Fullerton, so we simply walked from one place to the next.

The boys were throwing objects into the water to splash each other. This is why I shoot candids, because genuine moments like these are best captured while it's happening and not posed.

I really liked the color of this wall and the lines at the top. What a sweet design.

I didn't tell Brian why I posed them right at this spot, but I wanted to get the name of the restaurant in the background while he held Ezra like this: It reads "Heroes."

The boys are at an age where kissing is yucky, but Noah was kind enough to kiss mom for the sake of art.

This is just too adorable.

Brian and Kristy in front of their favorite restaurant.

The boys look out from the inside while Mom watches. Where's the photographer?!

Cute shot of the boys. This is a rare, still moment.

A family of actors. You can't tell, but they were only pretending that a train was coming.

A kiss.

Too many cool walls, not enough blog space to post them. This is just one of many.

Watching as the train goes by.

As I've said, there are so many great shots but I just can't post them all here. That's what happens when you follow around a family as cute and fun as Brian's.

Dusky and Bobby at Disneyland Hotel

Bobby is a friend of mine and doesn't like to have his photo taken. Unfortunately for him, Dusky loves my photos and wanted me to photograph their wedding. We had a great time shooting though, because they're truly a fun couple. Bobby has an uncanny ability to make people laugh and Dusky just has a way with the camera, so Disneyland Hotel was the perfect setting.

Click here for the gorgeous flash version, or continue reading below for the blog photos.

Dusky is a natural in front of the camera. She doesn't really take a bad shot.

Cute smiles in every shot.

A sweet, tender moment.

And the laughs begin again.

I waited for that moment when the sun fell on her hair to snap the shot. It's such a natural, beautiful glow.

In front of waterfalls.

I thought Dusky was joking when she said she could pick Robbie up, so imagine my surprise when she actually did!

A cute shot in the phone booth.

A snuggly moment.

By themselves, on a bench.

San and Allan at St Regis and Laguna Beach

We met up with San and Allan in south Orange County on a beautiful Saturday evening before sunset. We started at the beautiful St. Regis Monarch Beach where they had a chance to get over their shyness in front of the camera. Then we headed up to Aliso Beach Park to enjoy an amazing Laguna Beach sunset.

Click here for the gorgeous flash version, or continue reading below for the smaller photos.

I love this exquisite wall at the St. Regis Rotunda.

They have great looking natural smiles.

Kicking the legs up. Cute.

Embracing at the pretty garden outside.

Our entire shoot at the beach was during sunset.

You can tell they're now loosened up and having fun.

A nice private moment together. Just them, their footsteps and the blue waters.

This might be the reason why I will never leave Southern California.

And we end the session with a sunset silhouette kiss.

Kathryn and Steven in Laguna Beach

We met up with Kathryn and Steve at Bluebird Beach in Laguna Beach. He grew up around there so we knew exactly where to go to get the shots we wanted. Let me tell ya, this couple is really fun to photograph! They are so cute together, you can easily see how much in love they are through the photos. For example, we told them it'd be fun to get some running shots on the beach and they just sprinted off racing each other at full speed. Check out the photos to see what I mean.

Click here for the gorgeous flash version, or continue reading below for the smaller photos.

There is the famous Bluebird Beach backdrop.

Any closeup shot of Kathryn reveals a picture-perfect smile.

Focused on the ring.

I just love the emotion of this shot, with the hands held together and her graceful glance downwards.

There's the silliness coming out of those two.

Natural, genuine laughs are often so beautiful.

They kicked off their sandals so high in the air and watched as it fell to the sand.

We then hopped on over to the park nearby where Steve used to hang out as a little kid.

I can't stress enough how a real genuine laugh shows up great in photos.

I love how soft the light is, both on their faces and the trees behind them.

There was no way they were not going to get on the swings for the shoot.

Just another chance for them to snuggle.

This was a funny scene because there were two people to my left doing their taxes on the bench, and we're here doing an engagement shoot ten feet away.

I can't wait for the wedding!

Athletes and Aces in Newport Beach

The annual Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center Athletes and Aces Casino Night was held at the Island Hotel's Palm Garden in Newport Beach. The event is hosted by baseball great Robb Nenn and his wife Jendy, and includes many other athletes that contribute to such a great cause. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to shoot this event because it's a star-studded event and filled with fun.

Chris Pronger of the Anaheim Ducks watches as two attendees square off in a Nintendo Wii baseball game.

Charitable Anaheim Ducks Jean-Sebastien Giguere and Samuel Pahlsson pose with the Stanley Cup.

Signed sports memorabilia were donated by the sponsors and sold via a silent auction. "Jiggy" so happened to be in the background so I quickly snapped a shot of this Ducks jersey.

Former Angel Chuck Finley being playful.

Robb and Jendy speaking to the crowd. I admire athletes who take the time out to really give back to the community. You can tell how much they care by all the time and effort they put into it.

Darin Erstad signs the harley that was sold off during the live auction.

Jim Everett has a good laugh on the bike.

Michelle and Tom in Downtown San Juan Capistrano

We met up with Michelle and Tom in downtown San Juan Capistrano by the Train Depot for their engagement shoot. We're excited to shoot their wedding next month in Laguna Beach at Pacific Edge. Michelle and Tom were a fun couple to work with. They were very easy going and they had no problems being themselves and being silly with each other. There were many sweet moments. Here are a few that caught my eye.

This was an antique train on display by the main office at the Train Depot.

I love the red color of the train.

Luckily, the train was late so we sneaked in a few shots on the tracks.

Here's a sweet moment as we walked around the downtown area.

This is one of my favorites. The colorful leaves added a nice touch to the shot.

The weather was a little chilly but beautiful. I wanted to capture this shot with the sun glaring behind them.

Here's Michelle and Tom sitting in front of The Ramos House Cafe. This is their favorite spot to visit whenever they're in the area.

I love the way he holds her hand here, and the background is so smooth!

Jackie and Roy in Irvine

Jackie and Roy were only in town for these couple of weeks so we wanted to get the engagement shoot in, even if it meant braving a freezing-for-Socal day. Roy grew up in the East coast so the cold was nothing to him. One thing I like about cloudy days is that it creates a romantic mood for a shoot like this. It has a winter feeling without the snow. Here are the results of a fun shoot in Irvine.

I wanted to give them a nature-themed look for the engagement shoot because their wedding is going to be beach-themed, so this way they get a variety of photos.

Shot in this tunnel always turn out great.

Note the heart-shaped leaf right above Jackie. How completely random and awesome is that?

I love how the leaves create a frame around them.

A cute closeup.

Jackie has such a bubbly personality and Roy seems to feed off that energy.

This is one of my favorite shots... they are genuinely laughing and having a good time.

We squeezed these photos in with the last bit of light left for the day.

Jeannette and Matt's Christmas Photos

Let me start off by saying that this was one of my most challenging shoots yet and I'll tell you why. Jeannette and Matt specifically wanted campy 1970's styled photos so they can send them out as cheesy Christmas cards. They're just fun like that. Jeannette made Matt's "special" reindeer sweater herself, with the intent of making it as old-fashioned as possible. My job was to not make it look as good and artistic as possible, but instead to give it an outdated look.

I think this one works really well. I purposely used direct-flash so it would look the part, and the acting by the trio was perfect. I also gave it a little yellow-tint treatment.

Here are a couple more with better lighting technique and still with a yellowish tint.

I love their expressions here, and the fact that they came up with the idea and put so much effort into it. I can't wait to see how the Christmas cards come out!

Robin's Family in Floral Park

One good thing about shooting weddings is that people who attended may eventually see your work and invite you to photograph them. After seeing her son Kevin's wedding photos, Robin liked them so much she invited me to do a family portrait session at her beautiful home in Floral Park.

I thought that this time, in addition to the regular shots, it would be a good idea to show some outtakes you wouldn't normally see .

We'll start off with the cute babies.

One happy and one not-so-happy baby.

Here's one of the outtakes with Sam giving Cash a finger in the mouth.

Sometimes, babies are just not going to smile for the camera. Cash just wasn't having it that day, yet these are my two favorites from the shoot. He has such expressive eyes!

Look at the emotion on his face. I'd give him an Academy award for this performance.

A little upside-down action with Sam.

The boys.

Here's another one of those outtakes that don't normally show up. One of the girls just couldn't stop laughing. I love cute moments like these when they're just goofing around.

Dana and Kevin, the couple whose wedding we shot in Carmel.

Thanks to Robin for inviting us to do this shoot.

Tina's Family in Irvine

With Tina and Steve's kids involved in many sports activities on the weekends, we really only had one date to try to do the shoot even though we scheduled it way in advance. As luck would have it, the weather in Irvine was perfect and their kids were great for this family portrait session.

Our goal was to capture everyone in a more natural fashion rather than just the traditional formal posed portraits. We tried to blend the two styles so we can be sure to capture their natural, individual expressions while also getting the group shots suitable for large prints and possible inclusion in Steve's professional website.

You can tell right from the start that Lily was a lively and energetic girl. The camera is definitely drawn to her smile.

We need to get some tips from Tina and Steve on how to raise kids, because the boys were all so polite and easy to work with.

Handsome kids.

A cute father and son moment.

Tina did such a great job with the wardrobe. She and Lily matched quite well.

Lily often wandered off and found her own activities.

I love these candid smiling moments.

Just the guys.

This is one of my favorites from the shoot. I told them all to get their faces close together and Lily comes over and plants a kiss on her brother's cheek. This is right afterwards when she looks up with her big adorable eyes.

Tina was looking for someone who would capture her family in a new way, in a more natural and relaxed outdoor atmosphere. I'm so glad she chose me to do the shoot because it was a lot of fun and I really love how the images turned out.

Baby Kate in Laguna Beach

We've been trying to schedule Baby Kate and family for a while now, and we're so glad we finally got a chance to shoot in Laguna Beach. We had a gorgeous location at a friend's house, a beautiful family in Kate and her parents, and the perfect lighting at sunset. Kate was such a cute and happy baby. She seemed to love the camera and vice versa.

Mom and dad, Jessica and Jason, playing with Kate.

As you can see, Kate and her mom share this in common: sticking their tongue out.

This is my favorite shot. I could not stop smiling while I was retouching this photo because it's just so darn cute!

Kate was so easily amused. Something as simple as a piece of grass was enough to make her happy.

I love how her cute little toes curl.

She was posing for my wife here. What a darling!

Just look at that face.

Here's an action sequence, with the kiss first...

... then the lift!

Spanning three generations.

Su and Hanson Weds at Tustin Ranch Golf Club

With all the fires going on around Orange County, it was nice to have a little rain. Unfortunately, it was also Su and Hanson's wedding day at the Tustin Ranch Golf Club. It drizzled on and off until the ceremony was to begin, then it suddenly stopped and a beautiful sunset arrived just in time for a beautiful ceremony. Su and Hanson are such a nice couple, I'm so glad everything worked out in the end.

A bridesmaid trying to copy a hairstyle from Mischa Barton.

Su's long beautifully decorated wedding dress.

The bride making sure everyone looks good.

The bridesmaids were busy getting Su's wedding dress bustled up. You can see the hands working furiously on it.

I love when the bridesmaids are perfectly spaced out with great posture.

The sky was simply gorgeous.

The recessional. The bride and groom share a genuine smile with each other.

The DJ tricked the guys into doing this two-step move where they pointed at their feet and then pointed up in the air, and then he proceeded to play the song "Staying Alive" which drew lots of laughs from the crowd.

The most emotional moment of the night was when the bride's father started to tear up, which made Su cry as she attempted to wipe the tears off her daddy's face.

Michelle and Hai in Laguna Beach

Since I already shot the wedding for Michelle's twin sister, Marlene, I wanted to try something different with Michelle and Hai's engagement session. We walked around the streets of downtown Laguna Beach and captured some candid silliness from the couple.

Laguna Beach features many different colored backgrounds like this green one.

Michelle says something funny into Hai's ears. To the left is Michelle's brother-in-law videotaping the shoot in the background.

Quite happy together.

This isn't a camera/Photoshop trick. The wind blew at Michelle's dress to give it that swirly look.

Playing peek-a-boo through the telescope.

A sweet moment together during the beautiful sunset.

Sally-Ann's Family in Laguna Beach

Since I specialize in wedding photography, I usually don't have a chance to work on other types of shoots. I'm so glad, however, that Sally-Ann and I were able to find a date to shoot her cute family in Laguna Beach. When she told me that they were a French-Australian family and were only here in Southern California for three years so they wanted photographs as a souvenir, I was excited to make this shoot memorable and the photos something they can be really happy to look at when they are no longer in the US.

As I looked over these photos, I realized that my parents didn't have the opportunity to have pictures done like these for us when we were little. I thought to myself, how fun it would be for the kids to see this 20 years down the road when they are all grown up. Even though I may not have memories like this, it's every bit as satisfying for me to provide these images to an adorable family like Sally-Ann's.

Connected family.

We found that Luca would smile biggest when he got to run as fast as he could.

Having a little fun with Luca.

Something about the ocean just makes people want to jump.

Close-up of the adorable Sophie.

I love how there are footstep lines that go down to him and extend with his shadow, footsteps behind him, and unchartered territory ahead.

This is my favorite shot with the sunlight falling on their golden hair.

Sally-Ann gives Sophie a big push.

Another one of my favorites.

Jeannette and Matt's Wedding

Jeannette and Matt were married at the Bell Tower in Rancho Santa Margarita on a relatively cool weekend in Orange County. This wedding was unique in several ways: The design was exquisitely done by Jeannette and Matt and everything matched so well. The catering was provided by In-N-Out Burger because that's where Jeannette's parents were engaged.

How appropriate that the front page of The Orange County Register that day had an article titled "Gems Rare."

I love how even the cake matched the theme.

Look at the awesome details and colors on the wedding cake.

Vahhzz...Floral Design by Dean Jones provided the high-end floral arrangements and they were amazing.

Jennifer and Vic in Laguna Beach

Jennifer and Vic were married at the beautiful Occasions at Laguna Village in Laguna Beach. We shot their engagement shoot last December and found them to be a delightful couple. They were just as wonderful to work with during their wedding. Vic was one of the most relaxed grooms I've seen yet, and Jennifer was very giddy even right before the ceremony. Everyone was just so pleasant to work with that we had a wonderful time at the event. In addition, the sun's bright light provided a uplifting look and feel to the photos.

Su and Hanson in Huntington Beach

We met Su and Hanson at the beautiful bridge and tower of the Huntington Beach Hyatt. Su was all smiles during the shoot, and she seemed to laugh more as the conservative Hanson became more shy. Hanson is a lot like me in that he's much more comfortable behind the camera than in front. As you can see though, he's quite photogenic so hopefully this will show him that he can be great in front of the camera.

Su's cute pink shoes.

The sky was awesome. It was half blue and bright and half cloudy and dark. There was also thunder and lightning. What's a little scary weather to stop us from a great shoot?

Su's laugh is so infectious, every time she laughed I was laughing behind the camera too.

Chillz Frozen Yogurt in Rancho Santa Margarita

Our good friends Jaime and Ace just opened up a frozen yogurt shop in Rancho Santa Margarita. We went to taste their delicious yogurt and to take some promo shots at the same time. If you're ever in the area, go check it out. There's a beautiful lake that's literally a ten second walk from the store.

Jaime and Ace, two of the nicest people you'll ever meet.

They don't have a name for this one but I'm going to call it the Jimbo Green Tea, named after me. It's a tarty green tea yogurt with raspberries, blackberries, and coconut shredded on top.

I really liked this mango yogurt too, with my favorite blueberries on top. Yummy.

We'll be back soon!

Charity Golf Classic in Laguna Niguel

The Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center asked me to shoot their Annual Charity Golf Classic at the Laguna Niguel Country Club. I really enjoy working with them because the people at the CAPC that put together the events are awesome and the cause speaks for itself. This event was a little more serious than the Jessica Erstad "Not So Serious" Women's Golf Outing that I covered last time, but it was still fun as always.

I think the golfer who got closest to the hole won a free lease to the car for a weekend.

There were a few of these beautiful classic cars on display.

UPS is one of the major sponsors for the event.

Silent auction items included sports memorabilia like this Jose Molina autographed baseball.

Kristine and Rick's Wedding in Newport Beach

Kristine and Rick got married at the Marriott in Newport Beach on a gorgeous sunny day. First of all, I'd like to say what a nice and sweet couple they were to work with. Although they were quite stressed at first, they loosened up and was laughing all night with their guests. Kristine and Rick have been together since they were in high school and it was such a wonderful experience for me to be a part of their special day.

The make-up artist did a really good job with Kristine.

Leslie and Chris in Costa Mesa

We photographed Leslie and Chris's wedding at the Costa Mesa Country Club in Orange County on a beautiful day with clear blue skies. There were a lot of great little touches to make the evening fun, from a cute little girl holding up a sign to remind guests to turn off their cell phones to the groom performing live to cap off the night.

Leslie and Chris did an awesome job with red, black, and white theme.

Just a cute little reminder...

A deep breath before the big moment every girl dreams about since they were little.

Kelley and Aaron in Laguna Beach

I caught up with Kelley and Aaron in Laguna Beach during the magic hour, a term we use in photography to refer to the half hour before the sun sets and the half hour after. Even though it was overcast, we managed to get some great pictures and have some fun by jumping into the water and rolling around in the sand. It's my wettest shoot yet.

Kelley and Aaron are actually friends of ours. Kelley's the one that introduced me to the Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center, the organization whose events I love shooting. I had met Aaron before they got engaged, so when Kelley told us that he popped the question on their recent trip to North Carolina, I was so excited for her because Aaron is such a nice down-to-earth guy.

I was glad they brought Max along. He has a real gentle demeanor for such a big dog. You can just tell how calm he is.

My poor assistant/wife, Sen, had to hold on to Max's leash for the entire shoot. Well, Sen weighs about 100 pounds and Max is probably around the same. She literally had to use all her strength to hold Max back when he wanted to go play with Kelley and Aaron.

Both the sky and water have a soft look to it at this time of day.

They are such a photogenic couple. They are naturals in front of the camera, despite Kelley saying that she was a little nervous.

I wanted to get the reflection of the sun on the sand. I love how it came out with their fun pose.

They are the first couple to volunteer to get in the water for me. This was the most fun I've had at a shoot yet, despite almost getting my camera wet.

I knew that Aaron wanted to get this shot of the water splashing on Kelley. You can see the surprised look on Kelley's face, much to the amusement of Aaron.

I love how you can see the movement of the water as it's receding back into the ocean, yet the kiss stands still in time.

This was so much fun that we're planning to do another shoot before the wedding. I can't wait!

Karen's Family in Laguna Beach

Karen's family were in town and because it's a rare event, she wanted to get some photographs of everyone together. We met in Laguna Beach and had fun playing on the sand and in the water. They are a really pleasant group of people and I'm a sucker for cute babies, so it was a great time.

This is right before they did my signature jumping shot (Karen is a friend of the bride in my popular jumping shot).

I love photographing happy people. This pose was Karen's idea.

She was having so much fun running around in the water.

Jessica Erstad's Charity Golf Event

I was asked to shoot The 4th Annual Jessica Erstad "Not So Serious" Women's Golf Outing benefiting the Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center at the Black Gold Golf Club in Yorba Linda. The theme was "Christmas in June" complete with a Santa greeting guests. Jessica and the CAPC did such a great job with the event in raising money for the center. I am a big fan of these events because it is for a good cause.

The event was held at the Black Gold Golf Club in Yorba Linda.

Santa was great at getting the guests prepped for photos.

18 holes of silly games. This one required you to put in a bell on the green.

I'm glad that there are people out there like Jessica trying to make a difference.

Kendra and Kevin at Newport Beach Pier

Kendra and Kevin flew in from Utah to get their engagement shoot done here in Newport Beach because that's where he proposed to her. I always encourage my clients to choose a location that's meaningful to them, and there is no place more appropriate than at the pier for this cute young couple in love.

Just so that there is no question where Kevin proposed. They look so cute together.

Brick walls make for great backgrounds.

And so do colorful walls.

It's hard for me to pick a favorite from a set, but this one is probably it.

Kendra has a genuinely sweet smile.

I wanted to get the surfers and the pier in the background to give it that unmistakable Newport Beach feel.

Kevin wanted to make sure we get some palm trees and I really liked this clock.

Christine and Roy in Laguna Beach

Despite June gloom, we were determined to make some happy pictures. It wasn't hard because Christine and Roy are such an easygoing couple. We met them at Bluebird Beach in Laguna Beach.

Christine and Roy were really good at relaxing and being themselves.

Sometimes, I don't even need to tell them what to do.

I love the smiles on this shot.

Christine and Roy wanted to bring their handsome dog to the shoot. I love dogs so I was looking forward to it. Hiro turned out to be as photogenic as his owners.

Kristine and Rick in Laguna Beach

We went out to my favorite beach in Laguna Beach to do their shoot. Kristine and Rick are a cute and shy couple. I like to shoot based on a couple's personality, so we went with a classic sunset on the beach style, using the beautiful sky and soft lighting to complement the gentle bride-to-be.

I like to enhance the glow of the sunset with this effect.

This is my favorite shot of the set. I like the way she rests her head on him, the tones on her face, the color of the sky, and the ocean behind them.

The sky really was bluish pink. It's hard to beat southern california.

At certain times during the day, the sun reflects its light off the ocean waters just like this.

I had them walk towards the light so I can follow the shadow and footsteps and lead it up to their romantic walk.

Marlene and Solomon's Engagement Session

To begin the engagement session season, we went to a favorite beach of mine in Laguna Beach to photograph Marlene and Solomon. It was interesting in that at the beginning of the shoot, the sun was out and by the end of the shoot it was cloudy. I liked that we had two types of lighting for this set.

engagement session photo
This photo draws my attention because of it's uniqueness. Many times during the shoot he picked her up and that made for some interesting and fun photos.

engagement session photo
This shot was too cute to pass up. I had them sit on the sand while I shot from far away. Then I noticed how the sunlight was falling nicely on their feet so I got up close and told Marlene to put her foot on his.

engagement session photo
I'm a sucker for footsteps on the sand.

He really enjoyed picking her up. He is a relatively tall guy so it was easy for him to swing her around in circles.

Child Abuse Prevention Center's Bright Futures Ball

The theme was "Spring Time in Paris," organized by the Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center. It was a classy fund-raiser in Newport Beach to aid the battle against child abuse. I was more than happy to do my part in helping this organization. I started doing wedding photography because I had a passion for it, but to be able to use photography to help with a worthy cause is so satisfying.

Irvine Hyatt Banquet

This was a really fun event to photograph because the guests came to party! They loved the props that were available, such as sombreros and fake guns. As much as I love photographing weddings, once in a while it's also fun doing events where everyone is all smiles and the drinks are flowing.

The girls couldn't help but giggle over the fun poses.

Everyone had a great time dancing.

Jennifer and Vic's Engagement Session

When Jennifer told me that she picked me to be her wedding photographer because of the description of my photojournalism style on the website, I was thrilled. I didn't think anyone paid attention to it, even though I really put my heart into it. In case you're wondering what that style is, check on the top of this page under "my philosophy on wedding photography."

I photographed Jennifer and Vic in Laguna Beach on the coast of South Orange County. The first thing I noticed about them was how nice they were. Her smile stood out to me as bright and beautiful. I can't wait for the wedding day.

I like to use black and white on shots like this.

They brought their Mighty Ducks jersey because they met at a Ducks game. Yep, that's cute.

She has a beautiful smile that stands out in the sunset.

My favorite shot of the set is this silhouette with the sunset in the background. I accentuated the glow to exaggerate the dreamy sunset.

Office Halloween Party

What a fun night it was covering this office Halloween party! Most of the guests had awesome costumes, with my two favorites being a couple of Johnny Depp characters, Jack Sparrow and Edward Scissorhands. They decorated a section of their office as a haunted house. It was scary even to the people who worked there.

The dolls were tied up and some were even "bleeding".

I realy like this decapitated figure.
