The Blog Has a New URL

The new url for the blog is:

http://blog.jimmychengphotography.com/

I asked my lovely wife and dog to help spread the word.

If you subscribe to the RSS feed, be sure to add the new RSS Feed here.

All the previous entries are here in the new url and also at the old url, but new entries will only be here.

The cool thing about this new one is that the archives work a lot better now. Also, there is now a "older posts" at the bottom of each page so navigation is much improved.

I still have a few recent shoots to post and a little personal announcement, coming soon.

For a Good Cause

I usually don't bother with photo competitions, but this is for a good cause so... I'm entering images in the WedComp International Wedding Image Competition to benefit Thirst Relief International.

For you photographers out there: Get recognition. Help a cause.

Time Sync on Cameras

I'm getting ready for a weekend with two weddings, and one of the things I always do the night before is to sync up the date and time on every camera so when you're sorting them after the wedding, it's in perfect chronological order.

Nikon D3, Nikon D300, Nikon D200, all with the exact same time.

Weekend in Big Bear

We just got back from Big Bear with some needed R&R. We stayed at a cute little cabin and cozied up with the pups. They've never seen snow before so it was fun to watch them run around in this mysterious cold white surface. Sen said it ended up being more tiring than if we had stayed home and slept all weekend, but it's hard to beat just how gorgeous the view is up there.

New Portfolio Slideshows

I've been adding new Flash slideshows on my portfolio page recently and I think they're just fantastic! The reason I started doing it is because I felt the smaller photos on the blog don't do them justice. You can't see the fine details and sharpness on some of the photos. The new slideshows display the photo at a size that is almost how I intended them to be viewed. Of course there is no substitute for seeing these photos in print and in person. I always look forward to receiving a fresh batch from my print shop because it's just that much better to see the vibrant colors on a physical photo.

Here's a few that I've uploaded in the last week. I will continue to upload older sessions as I have more time.

Kathy and Steve in Laguna Beach

Dusky and Robbie at Disneyland Hotel

Nicole's Maternity Session

Lauren and Mike's Wedding in Palos Verdes

San and Allan at St. Regis Monarch Beach and Laguna Beach

And We're Back

The Caribbean Islands is an amazing place, especially the beautiful beaches on St. Thomas and St. Martin/St. Maarten. I wish I could do some weddings there! The white sands and blue skies are an amazing backdrop for photos.

After a week away though, I couldn't wait to get back to work. Too many photos and not enough time!

Off to the Caribbean Islands

I would like give a big thank you to everyone I've photographed this year. You've helped me accomplish the goals I set for 2007 and thus it has been a very rewarding and successful year. I am finally taking a vacation to the Caribbean Islands and I'll be back in a week or so. If you want to contact me, please give me a week to reply because I promised my wonderful wife that she could have her husband back for at least a week, so I won't be checking E-mail or voicemail.

Back from Carmel

I was in Carmel for almost a week to shoot Dana and Kevin's wedding, which I'll have up in a couple of days. I have another shoot I need to post before then.

You can find me here in the middle of nowhere, or just E-mail me.

Gary Fong's National Ad Campaign

Maker of the useful WhaleTail, Gary Fong is doing a national campaign and is collecting photos for his magazine ad. I submitted a couple of photos to him and he posted one up.

Don't be scared though, this won't be what I look like when I shoot your wedding.

Click here to check out the entry on his blog.

Update: This is the ad that's going to be in the magazines...

Thank You's

I don't expect much gratitude for doing my job as a photographer. All of my clients, from weddings to events to portraits, have told me that they love the photographs I took of them. It's always great to hear and it's also validation of my work. Once in a while, I'll receive a thank-you E-mail or card that really makes my day. It makes me realize that the way I've treated my clients has been noticed and appreciated.

Here are a couple of cards that came in recently from Tiffany and Kelley and I just want to express how much I appreciate your kind words.
